"Teacher. . ." is the true story of a young woman raised in rural northwest Wisconsin, who went on to obtain academic degrees at three universities, and to teach in the United States, Sweden, Norway, Poland. From the 1960's to 2000 and beyond, she actively lived through the Civil Rights and women's movements, juggling marriage, children, and university teaching as well as taking part in the "War on Poverty" in the 1960s with high school students in Upward Bound. Throughout, she sees her upbringing on the land, child care, and teaching as uniting her life in "cooperative arts," where the artist does not impose upon inert material, but joins with living material to create together.
